Description
Viking Age (800-1050 AD).
Brooch made of a copper-alloy bronze which was then gilded. Found in a churchyard in Pitney, Somerset, England and stylised in the Urnaes fashion, named after the wood carvings on the church of Urnaes, Norway. Typical of this style, the motif depicts a fantasy animal fighting a snake, and is often interpreted as Christianity in battle against Paganism - the latter of course represented by the serpent.
An ideal gift idea for Her.
